Hi there,

Rainy Sunday blessings to you too… :)

Gimme a few minutes, let me take you back into time the year ....2005. The year I call my “Reach the Jaguar year”, the year I decided to start my own business.  I want to have a comfortable life, for my self, my family and especially my children.
Comfortable life does not necessarily mean filthy rich but just enough to wake up and drive to and fro in my grey Jaguar with the customized leather seats (dreamy look on). So dreams in hand I wrote my ideas on paper, had support to register it at the Registrar General’s department and I started moving round trying to sell my dream. Lawd, starting your own thing  in Ghana and have it succeed is crazy (people should be getting Nobel Peace Prizes for that- dramatic sigh). It is partly why I do not fancy motivational speakers who always ask you to reach within and become the next Bill Gates or Richard Branson. They know paaaa no one will help with the start up even if your proposal is solid. No bank or financier will mind you, well I do not blame them it’s their money and they get to decide what to do with it. But instead of charging a participant fee to motivate about things people already know can they for once set up some funds and support start ups. We are in the technological age no one will not look at Prince Kofi Amoabeng of UT and say I do not want to be like him, (rolling my eyes).

Well I went through all the motions…broke down in tears, prayed and over prayed, run of cash for big contracts, borrowed from friends and family, debts, the works but it paid off mostly because at the corner of my eye when I decided to give up…I saw the Jaguar speeding past me. I got contracts, some worked well, others I made mistakes but I never looked back so when I see that fierce determination that kept me up all night through others I get extremely excited. And as i always do on my Facebook and Twitter pages, I celebrate them.

Today is Sunday the 19th of August 2012 and I want to celebrate  Miss.Mabel Simpson. It has nothing to do with her being female empowerment. Mabel Simpson (I have never met you or heard your history but from what I see I think you are fantastic). I noticed her business through Facebook. She makes shoes (unisex), bags, purses, clothes, jewelry with local fabric. She is one of the pacesetters of that trend in Ghana. It is her not work that really made me notice her it is her determination to make her brand grow. She is always up to something, mentoring young people by sharing her experiences, partaking in various events to showcase her work and most of all always churning out unique variety of her products. I can only imagine what it has taken her to get to this point because gradually her brand Msimps is becoming a household name. I hope and pray that the quality that has drawn people to her will remain the same.  I am sure you will want to get in touch with her, I am sure you can find her here. http://msimpgh.blogspot.com , http://msimpsgh.com or on Facebook her name is Mabel Simpson.

Another thing lets support ourselves especially in the fashion area, I am really tired of seeing made in Korea, Nigeria, China, UAE, USA, UK etc. Yes you are right our finishing of products can be terrible but let us support the few good ones by rocking “our made in Ghana”.
And btw Color blocking was not introduced for women or girls to look like peacocks. I dont get why people mix abominable colors in the name of blocking. It is supposed to be fashionable. Use the internet, google the trend and stop making us blind in Ghana. Na Adzen?!

Have a blessed Sunday

Love

Me.
